| Name: | Alice |
|---|---|
| Location: | Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States |
DOB: 02/25/1977.
Vocation (or, actual life's work): Novelist. Literary fiction. As of March 2008, I've completed two full manuscripts, and plan on writing several more. Still unpublished at this point. Will gladly sell soul, and possibly organs, to get published, but no one's taken me up on that offer yet.
Occupation (or, how I make a living): Currently, I work in a call center for university enrollment. I've also been a debt collector, an insurance agent, an office peon, a seller of shoes, and a maker of salads. Who knows what I'll be next? I don't really care what I do for a paying job, as long as it doesn't involve handling feces or dead animals.
Some writers I love and wanna be like: Margaret Atwood. Ann-Marie MacDonald. Tom Wolfe. Joyce Carol Oates. Jack Kerouac. Thomas Hardy. Michael Cunningham. Wally Lamb. e.e. cummings.
Religion: Second-generation atheist. (Although I am also comfortable with the terms "infidel," "heretic," "heathen," or "spawn of Satan.")
Politics: Left.
Some Random Things I Love: Music of the late 60s/early 70s. Irreverence. Plays on words. All things retro and psychedelic. My family. Becky K., my best friend and platonic soul mate since 1989. Art Nouveau. Warm colors. Chococat. New notebooks. Fountain pens. Sunlight. Abstract art. Miniatures.
Some Random Things I Loathe: Angry people. Texan cockroaches. Censorship. Clutter. Ballpoint pens. Sports. Intolerance. 80s fashion. Xenophobia. Storms. Romantic comedies. George W. Bush.
Hobbies: Dolls. Sewing and embroidering. Playing around with paper, crayons, and paint.
Websites: my old blog: art-of-alice.blogspot.com
Personality: Myers-Briggs INFP. Very strong on the "I" for Introvert. Doesn't mean I'm shy, stuck-up, socially anxious, or even particularly quiet. I just usually identify more as an observer than the center of attention, and I've always been mystified by the concept of "loneliness."
Esoteric Area of Expertise: obscure sixties music. Want to know anything about The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, The Pretty Things, Moby Grape, or The Electric Prunes? I'm your gal.
Living Arrangements: I share an apartment with one 16-lb black cat, Casimir. He allows me to live here as long as I keep paying the rent and presenting him with his breakfast promptly at 6:30 AM each morning.
Where's Home? Most of my life, I lived in north-central Wisconsin. Then I moved to Texas in 2005 kind of crazily (because everyone should undertake at least one crazy, drastic move in their lifetime). Got sick of battling the bugs and trying to understand the bizarre Texan highway system, so I packed up again and relocated to the Twin Cities of Minnesota in 2008.
Marital Status: Single, aka Spinster, with no desire whatsoever to change. I know, I'm weird. Get over it.
